The National Growth Areas Alliance (NGAA) is pleased to announce the election of Mayor Terresa Lynes, City of Gosnells, as Chair, and Cr Todd Carney, Mayor of Penrith City Council, as Deputy Chair.
Mayor Lynes and Cr Carney have both been actively involved in the NGAA for several years, bringing with them a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Australia’s fast-growing outer metropolitan communities. Their leadership will ensure the voices of growth area councils continue to be heard at the highest levels of government.
Over the next two years, they will lead the NGAA’s Strategic Advisory Committee and guide the Alliance’s advocacy agenda. This will include strengthening relationships with Federal Members of Parliament, shaping policy positions to influence national decision-making, and encouraging greater investment in the infrastructure and services essential to support housing supply, economic growth and community wellbeing in growth areas.
Mayor Lynes said she was honoured to take on the role of Chair. ‘The NGAA plays a vital role in advocating for the millions of Australians who live in our outer suburbs. I look forward to working with Cr Carney and our members to drive real outcomes for our communities.’
Cr Carney said he was committed to building on the NGAA’s strong advocacy work. ‘Growth areas are where the future of our cities is unfolding. We must ensure the right investment and policy settings are in place, and I am excited to help lead that conversation nationally.’
The NGAA represents 22 councils on the fast-growing edges of Australia’s major cities, home to over five million people. Together, these councils advocate for fairer investment and policies to support the infrastructure, services and opportunities their communities need to thrive.
